Icelandic Tour, of Wonders by God

Sorry no pictures of our hotel or room,DSCN4440
just some evidence of it being 8 stories.

Wednesday: – Lava Caves

Before we got to the lava tubes we found
a business with dried fish carcass hanging
out to dry (head, tail and bones of Rays).
DSCN4269
We just had to make a stop for photo-op.
Some bacteria grows on the remains and
gets used in a health food soup.

At the entrance we found icicles.

DSCN4297

Once in the cave we are told about the heat
of the lava as it had flowed and recedes.
DSCN4294
The ceiling of ‘rock’ melts and drips to the floor.

There we saw little towers of rock
DSCN4295
looking like candle wax drippings

One rock we found looked like an Angelfish.
DSCN4293
We were allowed to take home a picture of it.

All of their produce is grown in green houses.
DSCN4303
Geothermal heating works year round.

Thursday: – Glacier Walk

Along the way we get to visit a water fall
that is still pouring the pumice from the
volcano that blew two years ago.

DSCN4316

The have to dredge the river every month,
to protect the  bridges from flooding.

We saw another water fall that disappears.

DSCN4308
The wind blows it back up into the sky.

On the glacier we got to explore some of
DSCN4325

the different formations and pitfalls.
DSCN4326

Walking with crampons was easy for Vickie.

DSCN4338

We got some cool pictures of
sculptures made by runoff.
DSCN4340

Most of it was solid ice with patches of pumice.
DSCN4327
The view of God’s creation is beyond
description. You have to see it your self.

Friday: – The Golden Circle

Our first stop is to see the rift of Iceland.

DSCN4352

Some of it was paved for walking.
DSCN4364

Somehow I missed the water fall above.

DSCN4366

There is a river that drops across the rift.
DSCN4372
And between the rock faces like a canal,

DSCN4367
then into the valley below.
(this is the drowning pool, reserved for
women; men were beheaded.)

DSCN4370
The river used to have a straight flow
to the ocean, eons ago.

Here we have another great mystery.

DSCN4371
Nothing moves it: Wind, rain, earthquakes.

Before we get to the Gullfoss falls we have
DSCN4383
a treat of Lamb soup (stew),so very good.

It was a long walk down the steps,
DSCN4387
looking back what do we see?
A double rainbow (only one shows here).

Then to the falls: Well, you know words
DSCN4394
just can’t describe it. It was so beautiful,
DSCN4388
and we were thankful that it was saved
DSCN4400
from hydro-electric development.
DSCN4402
This is a dry spell, flood waters cover.
DSCN4406
Beautiful cascades the full width.
DSCN4392
Two hundred cubic meters per second.
(God’s very own Design I’d say)

Next thing we visit is the geysers.
DSCN4413
We saw one make a huge bubble,
like eight feet wide (missed it),
 DSCN4416
before it blows steam 20 feet high.

Last, we stop to see a special church
with lots of stained glass windows
DSCN4427

and a mosaic of Christ behind the pulpit.

DSCN4423

Our tour guide told of Its conversion
from Catholic to Protestant because
of influence from Denmark.

Time for one more detour, the swimming hole,
DSCN4433
a crater of unknown depth and use?

Saturday: – The Blue Lagoon

Before we leave for home (4:30pm)
we take time to visit the Blue Lagoon.
DSCN4457
The  water is from the geothermal building nearby.

DSCN4459
The color is such a pure ice blue that you
DSCN4448
cannot believe it is warm, or hot even.

They have snack bar and restaurant.
DSCN4454
Food is good everywhere.

Iceland Itself is Thee Pot of Gold!DSCN4464
We found the End of the Rainbow and
The start of a New Age for dinosaurs.

The ride back we chased the sun for seven
hours and got to Seattle by 6:00pm.
DSCN4469
Magnify picture to see holograms of atoms.
Crystals form in the window (50 below)

It’s a Miracle! Our thanks are to God for a
safe passage and this experience together.

Alaska Adventure with Brandee

Koniag Annual Meeting.  We had  an artist table.  After that we

went up the Matanuska Valley (92 miles) to the Matanuska Glacier.

Sunday we went down Turnagain Arm, going through the tunnel to

Whittier and then back to Turnagain Arm to see the Bore Tide.

We also took a gondola up the mountain into the snow at Girdwood.

We watched the paragliders.  What indescribable beauty and wonders

we experienced. Here are just a few of our pictures.

_1187

_1195

Muskox farm was closed.

So we will have to come back.

_1199

Nice place to visit. Here you may stay.

_1202

Mountains of Divinity.

_1204

At last we meet the Glacier – Face to Face

_1206

Nice clean pools for a quick jump in ‘n out.

_1208

_1210

Waiting for the noise of any movement.

End of the Trail, on solid ice.

_1213

This is just beyond the trail limit allowed.

_1216

Truly, you  have to watch your step.

It looks like a big mouth ready to swallow you.

_1218

I wish to get close enough to touch.

But it is getting dark out here and dangerous.

_1228

Just thinking about taking this errata home.

_1232

Boats anchored in the outflow of Turnagain Arm.

Divers were laying cable across the bay.

Long before the Bore Tide comes.

_1234

Big Horn sheep (white spots) w/o fear of falling.

_1238

Doug spotted a dog in the mountains.

_1240

Waiting to go into the tunnel to Whittier.

_1244

In the tunnel. Notice the rail road tracks.

_1251

_1255

Nice way to use tree trunks at the hotel.

_1259

Cruise ship dock out side of hotel/restaurant.

_1260

Hotel looks abandoned as we leave.

_1264

Looking for the ‘Tide’ at Bird Point on Turnagain Arm.

_1266

First sight of Bore Tide looks tame.

_1272

The sound of it was scary.

We did not know what was coming.

_1275

Total reversal of flow! Amazing sights!

_1277

On the mountain at Girdwood.

Turnagain Arm in the background.

_1282

_1283

_1288

This guy found a ‘sweet spot’ in the valley.

He just hung there for a long, long time.

_1291

_1295

Earlier we saw a moose and scared ‘m off.

This one actually posed for us.

_1297

We saw the green ‘flash dot’ sunset.

Close to Beluga Point on Turnagain Arm.

_1300

Looking the other way, at Potters Marsh,

a full moon was on the rise.
