Sorry no pictures of our hotel or room,
just some evidence of it being 8 stories.
Wednesday: – Lava Caves
Before we got to the lava tubes we found
a business with dried fish carcass hanging
out to dry (head, tail and bones of Rays).
We just had to make a stop for photo-op.
Some bacteria grows on the remains and
gets used in a health food soup.
At the entrance we found icicles.
Once in the cave we are told about the heat
of the lava as it had flowed and recedes.
The ceiling of ‘rock’ melts and drips to the floor.
There we saw little towers of rock
looking like candle wax drippings
One rock we found looked like an Angelfish.
We were allowed to take home a picture of it.
All of their produce is grown in green houses.
Geothermal heating works year round.
Thursday: – Glacier Walk
Along the way we get to visit a water fall
that is still pouring the pumice from the
volcano that blew two years ago.
The have to dredge the river every month,
to protect the bridges from flooding.
We saw another water fall that disappears.
The wind blows it back up into the sky.
On the glacier we got to explore some of
the different formations and pitfalls.
Walking with crampons was easy for Vickie.
We got some cool pictures of
sculptures made by runoff.
Most of it was solid ice with patches of pumice.
The view of God’s creation is beyond
description. You have to see it your self.
Friday: – The Golden Circle
Our first stop is to see the rift of Iceland.
Some of it was paved for walking.
Somehow I missed the water fall above.
There is a river that drops across the rift.
And between the rock faces like a canal,
then into the valley below.
(this is the drowning pool, reserved for
women; men were beheaded.)
The river used to have a straight flow
to the ocean, eons ago.
Here we have another great mystery.
Nothing moves it: Wind, rain, earthquakes.
Before we get to the Gullfoss falls we have
a treat of Lamb soup (stew),so very good.
It was a long walk down the steps,
looking back what do we see?
A double rainbow (only one shows here).
Then to the falls: Well, you know words
just can’t describe it. It was so beautiful,
and we were thankful that it was saved
from hydro-electric development.
This is a dry spell, flood waters cover.
Beautiful cascades the full width.
Two hundred cubic meters per second.
(God’s very own Design I’d say)
Next thing we visit is the geysers.
We saw one make a huge bubble,
like eight feet wide (missed it),
before it blows steam 20 feet high.
Last, we stop to see a special church
with lots of stained glass windows
and a mosaic of Christ behind the pulpit.
Our tour guide told of Its conversion
from Catholic to Protestant because
of influence from Denmark.
Time for one more detour, the swimming hole,
a crater of unknown depth and use?
Saturday: – The Blue Lagoon
Before we leave for home (4:30pm)
we take time to visit the Blue Lagoon.
The water is from the geothermal building nearby.
The color is such a pure ice blue that you
cannot believe it is warm, or hot even.
They have snack bar and restaurant.
Food is good everywhere.
Iceland Itself is Thee Pot of Gold!
We found the End of the Rainbow and
The start of a New Age for dinosaurs.
The ride back we chased the sun for seven
hours and got to Seattle by 6:00pm.
Magnify picture to see holograms of atoms.
Crystals form in the window (50 below)
It’s a Miracle! Our thanks are to God for a
safe passage and this experience together.
